Coast to Coast Day 8 - (Sun 17th May) Keld to Reeth (13 miles)

We stop off for a drink in Gunnerside before continuing on along the river...and it's all very pleasant until about 2 miles from Reeth where i manage to slip off a stepping stone across the river and get my feet absolutely soaking wet! So it's a squelchy couple of miles until we finally arrive in Reeth..just as it starts to chuck it down! We decide to have a couple of drinks in the King's Arms to wait for it to stop raining, it doesn't! It seems to get worse and worse and we finally decide we can put off the inevitable no longer and head down to the Orchard caravan park to put up our tent! We are met by Peter who tells us he's not going to let us put up our tent because of the rain....and that he's going to put us up in a caravan instead!! I can't even begin to tell you how relieved we were, it was absolutely pelting it down as he ushered us into the caravan which had a heater and a tv...luxury!! I could actually cry i am that happy and we really can't believe our luck  - acts of kindness like this make such a difference when you are tired and soaked and i can't thank him enough really.  We eventually manage to drag ourselves away from the fire to the Black bull where we have a fab dinner and chat to a few fellow walkers that we've met along the way...then we head back to our cosy caravan and fall asleep to the sound of torrential rain on the roof, thanking our lucky stars that we're not out in our tent!!
