We wake up to the sound of proper rain for the first time on the trip and it pretty much never stops today! After an early breakfast we set off through Shap, eager to get to Kirkby Stephen where Chris' dad Tim is coming out to meet us with our bigger tent from home so that we can start camping again rather than staying in B&B's and hostels the entire time. This morning we cross over the M6 bridge which we drove under on our way to St. Bees - it's weird to think we drove under it on the way to St. Bees and that it's taken us 6 days to get back to this point! It's not a very scenic start to the day's walk and the rain seems to be getting worse all the time...still the new waterproofs seem to be holding up alright, then it's pretty much heads down and trudging through the rain over lots of moorland for the rest of the day. It's pretty bleak compared to the lake district and i begin to wonder if we have left the best part of the walk behind us.
