The view back down Loft Beck
Black Sail is a former shepherd's bothy which has been turned into a youth hostel and it's a fantastic spot to stop and rest before the sharp climb up loft beck. The hostel is left open and has an honesty box so you can help yourself to tea and coffee (unfortunately the toilets are not, so be warned!) We hang around for a while, more to put off the inevitable but eventually we know we have to set off and begin our ascent of Loft Beck. Now i don't know whether it was because i was dreading it so much, but it actually wasn't too bad (even with the weight of the world on our backs!) - certainly nowhere near as bad as the long slog up to Black sail, and the views at the top were definitely worth the effort!
