Coast to Coast Day 2 - (Mon 11th May) - Low Cock How to Stonethwaite (15.5 miles)
Once we've had a breather and taken in the amazing views we carry on across Grey knotts, following the cairns that lead the way and then its a long descent to Honister slate mine and along the roadside to Seatoller. I have to say, the first two days of the walk were starting to take their toll on us both by this point and we were glad of the company of some fellow walkers to distract our attention from our aching feet and the increasingly heavy backpacks! The road seems to go on forever down through Johnny's Wood, which i'm sure in normal circumstances would be a lovely walk, but it's all i can do at this point just to put one foot in front of the other and try not to think about the next 12 days walking stretching out ahead of us! We finally reach Stonethwaite, where neither of us can face another night in our tent and we are lucky enough to get a room at short notice at the Royal Oak, which is absolute heaven, and after a shower and a change of clothes we hobble round to the pub for a welcome drink and some food. We see a few fellow coast to coasters in the pub who mostly think we're mad for carrying all our stuff and advise us to put it on the Packhorse van...i'm beginning to think they have a point!!
