High Rigg - Thu 6th Oct 2016

For our last walk of the week we decided to do High Rigg as it was close to Keswick and looked like a nice little walk to finish our holiday!
We drove to St.John's in the Vale and parked a little way before the church. The path continues on to the church and just before we reached it we took the path up towards High Rigg, we walked pretty quickly up to the right hand side to take some photos before dropping down and crossing over through the bracken towards the summit cairn. Yet again we had gorgeous sunshine and beautiful views over to Blencathra this time. We carried on across the ridges on the top until we eventually dropped down the other side, we initially thought we'd walk back along the road but quickly realised how busy it was and how dangerous it would be so headed back over the stile to find the path to the eastern side of High Rigg.
Unfortunately we missed the start of the path and ended up scrambling along the sheer banks above the river which was a bit scary before realising that the path was above us when a man came ambling past and asked us if we'd just swum across!!
After that it was an easy walk back on the path all the way back to the church and back to the van, 3 hours altogether and a lovely end to our week in the lakes.
