The Coledale Horseshoe/Scar Crags and Causey Pike - 19th August 2015
So our last walk of our lovely week in the lakes was the Coledale Horseshoe, taking in 5 more Wainwrights plus we decided to add on Scar Crags and Causey Pike from the Newlands Watershed walk as well….ticking off 7 more altogether!
We parked at the side of the road in Braithwaite and set off on the path up to Grisedale Pike, which got steadily steeper as we went on with lovely views back to Braithwaite before heading up the steep rocky Sleet How ridge. From here we headed across another smaller peak and down to Coledale Hause along an easy path before taking a path to the left straight up a clear path to the summit of Crag Hill(or Eel crag as AW referred to it in his guidebook.)
From here we clambered across the rocky ridge which was tricky in places especially as the wind was picking up, making it a little bit precarious in places for someone like me with not much of a head for heights!!
From the summit of Sail we head over to take in the summits of Scar Crags and Causey Pike before taking a slightly boggy path down to the start of the path going up easily to Outerside, over Stile End and finally onto Barrow. It was a really lovely walk even in the drizzle and a good one to tick off a lot of summits without too much distance in between them all. We head down a wide grassy path into Braithwaite, already planning our next trip to the lakes!
