Pennine Way day 2(sat 19th april 2014) - Torside to Marsden (12 miles)

After a hearty breakfast and a good nights sleep at the B&B we're ready to head off to Marsden which is fairly close to where we live and where we'll be staying at Chris' mums house for the night. It's certainly our cheapest accommodation en route (and also the nicest…if you're reading this Cath!) and has the added advantage that we can ditch any extra gear that we've decided we don't need/can't carry! The route sets off across the reservoir before heading up into woodland and up onto Laddow rocks. I'm aching a bit from the previous day and still fiddling around with my backpack trying to get a bit more comfortable with it. Even with minimal packing it still feels pretty heavy and i'm finding this the most difficult thing at the moment.

Most of the days walking is across moorland but is pretty easy to follow due to paths and lots of slabbing and is a fairly undemanding days walk up onto the top of Black Hill. We've been very lucky with another dry day and have so far managed to avoid any bogginess! We pass a couple of walkers but it's very quiet compared to yesterday.

We stop for a picnic just before the A635 and head down past several reservoirs (wessenden, Swellands and Black Moss) once again in blazing sunshine before heading off route down into Marsden where Chris' mum is picking us up. I must admit that i was starting to struggle at this point, the heat, the backpack and the previous days walking all seemed to catch up with me at once and it was a long couple of miles down into Marsden where i gratefully collapsed outside the river head pub for a glass of pop and an ice cream!!
Then it was off to Chris' mums for a hot bath, a lovely tea and our first 2 days washing done!
I'm in bed by quarter to nine, absolutely shattered!
