Pennine Way day 14 (thu 1st may 2014) - Greenhead to Once Brewed (7 miles)

It's lovely knowing it's such a short day today, especially after yesterday and we enjoy a leisurely breakfast before setting off late at 10.30am.  The lady at the hotel has managed to dry out our boots completely which is amazing considering how sodden they were and it's nice to set off warm and dry into a drizzly morning.
We quickly head towards Thirwall castle and onto the wall, one of the nicest stages on the hadrian's wall path, it's a short day but pretty tiring with a lot of climbs and drops and i manage to fall over early on, mainly due to tiredness i think, no lasting damage just a bit sore!

We pass Walltown Crags and arrive in Once brewed at 2pm.  We had planned to visit Vindolanda but the barman at the twice brewed inn informs us that the bus service doesn't start until the following week so we decide against it and while away a couple of hours in the pub until it's time for us to check in to our B&B.  Vallum lodge is 5 minutes along the main road from the pub and we get checked in and get our stuff sorted out, we're giving chris' dad some stuff to take home for us, anything to lighten the bags for the last couple of days!!
He drops us off some packed lunches for the next few days and we have a good night in the(very busy) twice brewed inn which is a bit weird after spending the last few days being the only people staying! After a hearty meal and a few drinks we say our goodbyes to Chris' dad and a big bag of dirty washing!!
