Pennine way day 11 (mon 28th april 2014) - Langdon Beck to Dufton (12 miles)

We wake up early and go down to the bar for the world's biggest breakfast, don't think i can walk anywhere after that!! We set off about 10am and head back to the track where the next few miles follow the river where we spend quite some time scrambling over rocks at the rivers edge, which is pretty good fun but does make for slow going! It's a lovely walk though and we eventually scramble up the side of Cauldron Snout waterfall which is a bit tricky especially with the big backpacks but we make it and have a little chocolate break at the top to enjoy the view.

From Cauldron Snout we head towards Birkdale on the road before walking up onto open moorland, which is a bit boggy in places but fairly easy going down to maize beck where we stop by the bridge to have our sandwiches.

We finally reached High Cup Nick and i have to say we were completely blown away! The photos i'd seen really didn't do it justice, it was definitely the highlight so far on the pennine way and we spent a good while just taking it all in, absolutely amazing!
From here it was a short walk down into Dufton in the sunshine where we pass some wild ponies and head into the village around 5pm. We were a bit gutted the pub wasn't open yet so we made our way to our B&B Coney Garth where we got a warm welcome from trudy who very kindly booked us into the YHA for our evening meal (the pub doesn't serve food on a monday) and we got cleaned up before heading down for a quick drink at the pub and then onto the YHA.
I have to say we didn't have high hopes for the YHA but it was actually really lovely, the food was fab and really good value and we got to sit and chat to some fellow walkers… a great evening to top off one of the best days on the pennine way so far!
