Pennine Way day 10 (sun 27th april 2014) - Middleton in Teesdale to Langdon Beck (9 miles)

We have a later breakfast today as we've got a short day ahead, just 9 miles to Langdon Beck as we decided to split up this section to Dufton into 2 days to have a bit of a rest.  We collect our laundry and set off just after 10am.
The route sets off easily enough through fields and then following the river out of Middleton, it's a bit overcast but not too bad and even the backpacks don't feel so bad, i was worried they'd feel worse getting them back after a day on the sherpavan!

It's a beautiful days walk visiting the waterfalls at low force and then at high force, which is really impressive and we stop to take photos and take in the views. Then we head over the hill and drop down crossing the river before reaching Langdon Beck and making our way to the Langdon Beck hotel at half past 2, a very short day but actually nice to be able to take our time and enjoy the views rather than pushing on to Dufton all in one go.
We end up spending most of the afternoon sat in the bar which is pretty busy with people having sunday lunch, we end up chatting to some of the locals and even get taken on a guided tour by a couple of pennine way association members to see a nearby hillside filled with blue gentian flowers, apparently this is the only area in the uk where they grow wild. It was very kind of them to show us as we would've walked past and never even noticed!
We spent the afternoon relaxing and having a bit of a nap before heading to the bar for tea, it's much quieter now and it turns out we're the only people staying tonight! We have a look around the geology room in the pub before turning in for the night.
