Dales Way - Day 4 (Tuesday 26th April) Dent to Grayrigg - 15 miles

Woke up after a slightly better nights sleep, although the zip on the tent has broken so the wind was blowing through the tent at an alarming rate most of the night, still we were both so tired i think we would've slept through anything! We get up about 8 o'clock and pack up the tent, it feels a bit cooler today which is a bit of a relief, to be honest! Slap on a few more compeeds, my feet are still really sore but at least the blisters seem to be getting a bit better. We pay for the campsite (£8 each) and go for breakfast at the meadowside cafe near the campsite before setting off walking about 10 o'clock. I have to say the first few miles to Sedbergh are absolute agony and i find every step a real struggle, it's not particularly a hard walk just that my feet are killing from the last few days - it's mostly along enclosed tracks as far as Brackensgill before heading to Sedbergh along the road. We have to stop and put our feet in the river again, it's freezing! but does the job, my feet are half the size by the time i put my boots back on, i also take the insoles out of my boots and this seems to make a massive difference...i only wish i'd done it sooner! We stop in Sedbergh to buy supplies and have an overpriced sandwich at what is possibly the worst tearoom i have ever frequented, whatever happened to service with a smile?!
We left Sedbergh feeling much more refreshed and head towards Brigflatts along the road before walking through fields to Lincoln's Inn bridge and on to the Lune Viaduct. Then it's through more fields to Nether Bainbridge and Hole House before emerging at Crook of Lume Bridge.
It was pretty overcast for most of the day and not particularly inspiring walking but the fact that my feet felt loads better and the prospect of a B&B in Kendal kept me going all the way to Grayrigg!
The plan was to get the bus from Grayrigg into Kendal for the night but we'd just missed one bus and would have to wait at least an hour and a half for the next, luckily a taxi driver from Bowness was dropping off a group who'd just finished the walk and had left their minibus just before Grayrigg. We explained we wanted to get to Grayrigg so we could set off from there the next day and he agreed to drive on and meet us there in 10 minutes, we literally nearly ran the last mile, worried that he might get bored and not wait for us!! Thankfully he did wait for us and dropped us off at the Hillside B&B in Kendal which was absolutely lovely, warm welcome and a beautiful room. Then it's a hot shower and a few drinks in Kendal, where Chris gets to revisit the pub he bought his first ever pint in(they didn't ask for ID this time!) and we have a lovely italian meal at Infusion before heading up the (very steep)hill to our B&B, so glad to be in a proper bed and not a tent!
