Latrigg/Skiddaw Little Man/Skiddaw/Lonscale Fell - 22nd May 2016

We were up in Keswick at the weekend for the Keswick Mountain Festival which is always a great weekend to visit….so as well as seeing a couple of bands at the festival site (Peatbog fairies/Bjorn Again - both great and really got the crowds going despite the truly dreadful weather!) and a fantastic talk from Alan Hinkes we managed to fit in a lovely walk on the sunday taking in 4 more wainwrights before we had to come home!

Once we'd packed up all our camping gear we parked up on the road just before the start of the path up to Latrigg…it's a really easy well marked path (i think i read it's wheelchair accessible which is great) and we're soon up at the top with gorgeous views back over keswick.  From there we took the Jenkin hill path, past a beautiful stone cross memorial and head up on steep stony tracks to the summit of Skiddaw Little Man before continuing up onto the top of Skiddaw.  It was pretty busy up at the top with lots of walkers and even a few mountain bikers and the views were fantastic.  We then headed down and picked up the grassy path towards Lonscale Fell which is pretty unremarkable to be honest but it's another crossed off the list!! Then we end up scrambling down Whit Beck to pick up the Latrigg path - probably not the best idea as it actually took us twice as long as we had to be really careful not to slip on the rocks on the way down (pretty hard going on the knees too!) Then it was a quick walk down the way we'd come up and back to the car…5 hours and 11 miles in all.  A really lovely walk in the sunshine and a fitting end to a great weekend at the mountain festival!
