We recently did this walk from the Stuart Marshall book 'Walking the Wainwrights' which took in 3 Wainwrights - Hard Knott, Harter Fell and Green Crag, 9 miles(but add on a couple more for getting lost!) and a total ascent of 2300 ft. It was a great walk apart from the boggy bits, we had fairly soggy feet by the time we got back!
We set off just before lunchtime from the top of Hardknott Pass and headed up the path to the right of the crags before dipping down into a small valley and heading up to the summit of Hard Knott which apparently has unsurpassed views of the Scafells, i say apparently because by this point the mist had come in and we couldn't see a thing!

We headed back to the road, crossed over and headed over some fairly boggy fields alongside the forest, i think we were a little way off the path but still eventually managed to make it up to the craggy summit of Harter Fell. The sun had come back out by now and the rest of the day we were walking in glorious sunshine

From here we headed down the main Eskdale track and then headed over a really boggy section which was pretty hard going and meant we had sopping wet feet by the time we finally dragged ourselves up to the summit of Green Crag.

From here we headed back across the boggy plateau before reaching Dunnerdale forest, very grateful to be walking on dry ground for a bit, heading through the forest but making the mistake of heading back down the valley which meant a bit of extra climbing to get us back, eventually to the Hardknott pass! We finally arrived back at the car at about half five after a fantastic walk, eager to get back to Bowness for dry socks and a well deserved pint!!
